Don't forget about Pokémon GO's January 2023 Community day! It starts January 7 at 2:00 PM and ends at 5:00 PM local time. This month's feature will be the grass starter from Kalos: Chespin, the Spiny Nut Pokémon! Be sure to go out and get some shinies!

When evolved during the event, Chesnaught will learn the charged attack, Frenzy Plant, like pretty much every other grass starter for Dommunity Day. The move is good, but I wouldn't say that it puts Chesnaught as a high-tier attacker. There are some uses for it in Ultra and Master league, but I'm not an expert on Go Battle League.

You have from 2:00 PM until 10:00 PM (5 hours after the event ends) to get the move.

Here are some other highlights regarding the event:

  • 2x Catch Candy
  • 2x Chance for Candy XL
  • 1/4 Egg Hatch Distance (when placed in incubator during event)
  • 3-hour Lure Modules
  • 3-hour Incense (including Daily Adventure Incense)
  • Snapshot Surprise Encounters
  • One additional Special Trade
  • Trades with 50% less Star Dust

The Bonus Raid battles also return, where if you defeat Four-star Quilladin raids, Pokémon nearby will return to being Chespin for 30 minutes and will have Community Day shiny rates.

Have fun getting some shiny Chespin, Quilladin, and Chesnaught! Generation 6 introduced 100%-for-sure hand-picked shinies (though we don't have concrete evidence regarding that) and the whole family got some really good ones!
