It's been a billion years, and now Pokémon fans can finally get their first ever Shiny Meloetta without resorting to using cheats or hacks! That's right, Meloetta has been shiny locked since her release in Pokémon Black and White. GameFreak and The Pokémon Company are now finally letting us get our hands on this excellent shiny through a distribution in Pokémon HOME! Here's how you can add a Shiny Meloetta to your collection!

All you need to do is complete the three following Pokédexes in Pokémon HOME:

  • Scarlet and Violet's Paldea Pokédex
  • Scarlet and Violet's Kitakami Pokédex
  • Scarlet and Violet's Blueberry Pokédex

Once those are complete, you'll be able to get Shiny Meloetta as a Mystery Gift. You can only get the Mystery Gift through the Mobile App, so make sure you have it downloaded on your mobile device and you are signed in to the same account that you use on your Nintendo Switch.

Here's what the Pokédex completion screen looks like on the Mobile App. This one is incomplete, the gift cannot be received until they are filled.

You'll need all three of these to be complete to get shiny Meloetta. Special thanks to @yozzoy on the RotomLabs Discord for the image.

And here's what it looks like on the Pokédex list screen when all three are complete.

This is where the effort comes in. In order to complete the Pokédex, you need to actually transfer in all of the Pokémon listed directly from Scarlet and Violet, or you'll need to trade with friends that have transferred them in from Scarlet and Violet. On a technical level, this means they must have Scarlet and Violet listed as their game of origin.

To clarify, Scarlet and Violet have Pokémon returning from previous games, and you probably have Pokémon in Pokémon HOME that are also in the Scarlet and Violet Pokédex but transferred from Sword and Shield or other titles. Those will not count towards this completion!

Additionally, a quick "touch transfer" is all you need to complete the Pokédexes. Just open Pokémon HOME, put the Pokémon in the box, save, and then you can put them right back in Scarlet and Violet.

You also do not need to own the DLC. If you have a friend that can trade you all of the Pokémon you need to your Scarlet and Violet save, then let you transfer to HOME, that would also work. But there are several hundred Pokémon necessary, so that could take a while.

This is the first time Shiny Meloetta is available for trainers. This probably means that we'll be getting another Shiny Meloetta in Pokémon GO during the Unova event early next year.

Also, it appears that every Meloetta is identical, They have a Modest Nature with perfect IVs (31) in Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed, with the other stats all at 20. The original trainer name for Meloetta is "Home."

Enjoy your new Meloetta!
