Regidrago Making his Pokémon GO debut

Regidrago, The Dragon Orb Pokémon, will make it's Pokémon GO debut on March 11! Unfortunately, it will only be obtainable through Elite Raids which must be completed in person. At least it's a super cool looking Pokémon, but it's no better than other dragons except for its massive stamina stat.

Elite Raids take 24 hours to hatch and they require in-person participation. Niantic has announced that the raids will hatch at the following times on March 11:

  • 11:00 AM Local
  • 2:00 PM Local
  • 5:00 PM Local

Regidrago is a pure Dragon-type Pokémon, so it'll be weak to Fairy-, Ice- and Dragon-type Pokémon. The top Mega counters are Mega Gardevoir, Mega Salamence, Mega Latios/Latias, and Mega Glalie. After that, Dialga, Garchomp, Zekrom, Rayquaza, and Palkia will work well on your teams. Keep in mind that the Elite Raid will make it a tier 5+ boss, so it'll have a lot more bulk making it harder to defeat. You're probably going to want at least 5 trainers for this one.

Here are the CP ranges for capture, so you can get a perfect:

  • 1614 - 1699, no Weather Boost
  • 2017 - 2124, in Rainy Weather

After beating the raid, you'll also get a free Timed Research to earn Regirock, Regice, and Registeel candy.

Regidrago has 400 Stamina, 101 Defense, and 202 Attack. These stats are okay, but it doesn't deal nearly as much damage as something like Salamence or Rayquaza as a Dragon attacker. Though it's large HP bulk and decent attack stat might give it some niche usage in PvP, but the rankings certainly are not in its favor.

In all honesty, it's probably fine to skip this event. Regidrago only has the "coolness" factor going for it and not much else. Maybe you'll get a rare legendary spawn around the gym after you clear it though!
