Z Mega Evolutions Have Mechanical Differences
As part of an official press release, the Pokémon Company has given a bit of extra insight into Z Mega Evolutions. Mega Lucario Z, revealed today, is the first of these Mega evolutions, and it seems there are some subtle differences mechanically to how they work.
Here's what the press release had to say specifically about Z Mega Evolutions:
Z Mega Evolutions, such as Mega Lucario Z, need less time to fire off moves but burn through Mega Power very quickly, making them less suited for long battles but a good option when trying to settle matches as fast as possible.
So, these Mega Evolutions are great for really fast bursts of damage through a barrage of moves, but they eat up more Mega Power. The Mega Lucario Z reveal video shows that it fires off moves faster, but cool down timers may also be affected.
How that translates directly to battle mechanics on a technical level still remains to be seen, but it certainly sounds like an interesting twist.
