Mega Raichu! What should you prepare for?

With Mega Raichu coming this Saturday between 2pm to 5pm your local time, there are some questions some people still have since it is a Super Mega Raid: Will this cost the same energy as Mega Mewtwo? How many Raids do we need to do? How many people do we need? All of this I can answer for you!
What to bring to a Super Mega Raid?
First, this is the most important question! The biggest thing people will immediately think for bringing to destroy the Shields for Mega Raichu X & Y is Primal Groudon as it is a monster of a attacker!
However, I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS.
When it comes to a Super Mega Raid, we need a Mega Pokémon ourselves to break the Shield! Primal Pokémon are not considered a official Mega so please do not bring this to these raids as they will not break the Shield. The Mega Pokémon I recommend are the following:
- Garchomp
- Camerupt
- Swampert
- Steelix
If you do not have any of these, that is fine! As long as you bring any Mega, even Mewtwo if you got this during Go Fest, you can conquer this raid! Just make sure before you start your raid is to make sure you have enough people with a Mega Pokémon and not Primals. You can ensure this by seeing the Picture below as one will be the DNA Symbol for Mega Pokémon and the other being the Primal Symbol for Primal Pokémon:

How many of each raid is required?
The good news for this, only one of each! Ever since the introduction with Mega Skarmory Raids, all Pokémon caught from a Super Mega Raid will come at Mega Level 1! If you want to Mega your own Raichu with Mega Raichu Y looking to be the best Electric Attacker, still one raid! Each Super Mega Raid rewards between 400 to 500 Energy and to Mega Evolve Raichu, each form costs 300 for the initial unlock.
If you want to make it Mega 4, you still need 5000 for it so either complete a ton of raids or walk with it as your Buddy after Mega Evolving any Raichu you own once!
How do I deal with Raichu's Shield?
For completing the raid the intended way, you will need so many Mega Pokémon to take out Raichu's Shield when it Enrages. Due to Scopely limiting the Shield break to 1 per person, you cannot break multiple and will need to rely on other raiders to break the shield. If they have a Primal Pokémon or no Mega of any kind, they will not be able to break this so be warned.
Some notes:
- If you start the raid with less Mega Pokémon than what is needed, it would be wise to leave at the 20s timer mark.
- If you have EXACTLY enough Mega Pokémon and you own one of these, please do not backout when there is less than 10 seconds remaining as this will not allow the other raiders to complete the raid, resulting in a loss of a Pass if they are unable to reattempt.
For the amount needed, this is still not publicly known until the day of but most likely you will need at least 7-8 Mega Pokémon to break the Shields.
What should I know for this day?
When Mega Raichu X & Y is available on Saturday, July 18th between 2-5pm,
- Free Passes: You will have up to 6 free Raid Passes for spinning the Gyms!
- Remote Raids: If you are raiding Remotely, remember it is 1 Remote and 200 Link Charge to still raid these.
- Priorities: Focus on getting one Mega Raichu X raid complete first then do one or as many Mega Raichu Y after as this will be the better Mega!
- Move Coverage: When facing Raichu, Ground type moves will be the best to do 2x Damage but keep in mind Raichu may know Surf or Trailblaze so you may want to look into using Garchomp if you have them to neutrally take less damage.
- Hundo CP Targets: Once defeated, I wish you luck in getting the Hundo!
- 1247 (Normal)
- 1558 (Weather Boosted in Rainy weather)
- Shiny Rate: Just like previous Raid Days, Raichu's Shiny Rate will be boosted!
- Research: Keep an eye under the "Events" portion of your Research as there will be Tasks to get a Steelix, some Candy, as well as some Mega Energy!

Canadian Gamer that loves Pokémon Go and Masters EX! When not playing these, will be playing a variety of other games or World of Warcraft.
