Poké Ball Pattern Vivillon is finally coming back. To celebrate today's release of the physical edition of Pokémon Legends: Z-A's Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension, the Vivillon Challenge has begun! This challenge is a global community goal to evolve Spewpa into Vivillon in Legends: Z-A 660,000 times! If we can pull this off, everyone gets a Poké Ball Pattern Vivillon!
This is a pretty big deal for collectors, especially for newer fans of the series. Poké Ball Pattern is Vivillon's event-exclusive pattern, and it hasn't been distributed in about ten years. The last North American release was in X and Y in August 2014.
How To Participate in the Vivillon Challenge
Every Spewpa you evolve into Vivillon adds points towards the 660,000 goal. You can check the world's progress on the official challenge website.
Spewpa caught in Wild Zones count towards the challenge, so you're not limited to the Mystery Gift Spewpa (see below).
The challenge runs from October 29 until November 19, 2026. If the goal is met, Poké Ball Pattern Vivillon will be available as a distribution!
Mystery Gift Spewpa
As part of the event, each player can claim a special Spewpa to help with the challenge. It can evolve into any of the sixteen patterns not already available in Lumiose (so anything except the Meadow, Marine, Garden, and Poké Ball patterns). The pattern is random and is set when you claim the gift even if you can't see the pattern until it evolves at level 12. Resetting the game before it evolves will not reroll the pattern.
That means that the possible patterns you can get are Icy Snow, Polar, Tundra, Continental, Elegant, Modern, Archipelago, High Plains, Sandstorm, River, Monsoon, Savanna, Sun, Ocean, Jungle, and Fancy. For reference, that Meadow is the main pattern you catch in the game, a Marine pattern comes from a side mission (Spewpa in the Museum), and the Garden pattern can be caught in Mega Dimension.
To claim your mystery gift follow these steps:
- Open the main menu
- Go to Link Play, then Mystery Gift, then Get via Internet.
Your Switch must be online with a linked Nintendo Account, but you don't need Nintendo Switch Online.
Remember that Mystery Gift requires getting to a specific point in the story. You can also only claim the Spewpa once per save and until November 19, 2026 at 1:59 UTC (or November 18 at 5:59 p.m. PST).
