Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Versions Announced for Nintendo Switch

Early today, the Pokémon Company announced that Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen will be making their debut on Nintendo Switch. The titles are set to be released on Friday, February 27, 2026 just after the Pokémon Presents presentation goes live.
FireRed and LeafGreen are available for pre-purchase on Nintendo eShop, though you'll have to pay $19.99 for each game. That's right, the games are sold independently of one another and will not be part of the Nintendo Switch Online GameBoy Advance inclusion.
This style of release is exactly how the Generation 1 and Generation 2 games were released on the Nintendo 3DS, so no surprises there. The official website notes that the Switch version of FireRed and LeafGreen will include local communication for trading, battling, and more. Of course, the Sevii Islands will still be in the game, along with all other original content.

Will there be new content or Mystery Gifts?
While no new features or content are announced, we think it's likely that there will be distribution events to let us encounter Mythical and Legendary Pokémon that we know exist in the games. We'll be sure to update you and report on that when we get more information.
What about Pokémon Home Support?
Pokémon Home support is announced, but details on how it will work are not yet available. Pokémon Bank support (via transfer-out only) was added for the 3DS releases, so we imagine something similar will come in the near future.
Where can I purchase them?
You can pre-order FireRed here and pre-order LeafGreen here (both Nintendo of America store links) for $19.99 each.
