Announced today, Niantic has revealed the long-awaited news that the player level cap will be increased! Starting on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, players will be able to get all the way up to level 80!

They're saying that this change is a full rebalancing of the player level system, and a number of players can expect a jump in level based on their total XP once the new system goes live. Fortunately, no one will be losing levels as part of the rebalance.

Some highlights from the change include the following:

  • The leveling curve will be rebalanced to allow more frequent level ups
  • The Level-Up tasks for levels 41 to 50 will be entirely removed
  • Level-Up tasks will be added for levels 71 to 80
  • Players at level 70 and higher will have an increased Lucky Friend chance
  • Level-up progression will get new rewards (such as increased item and Pokémon storage, and avatar items)
  • Pokémon Level caps will not be adjusted (they can still only be powered up to Level 50, with Best Buddy boosting to 51)

Additionally, all players will get a special medal identifying the level they reached before this change. Those that hit level 50 will get a new avatar pose and all of the avatar items and poses rewarded between levels 41 and 50 will no longer be available. Good luck if you're going to grind to level 50 before the change!

There will also be an event starting today at 1:00 p.m. where trainers will get the following bonuses:

  • 2x Catch XP for Nice, Great, and Excellent throws
  • +3,000 XP for winning raids and Max Battles

There will also be a timed research to grant over 7 million XP! So, get grinding!

We'll share more updates as we get them!
