Today, Niantic announced that a new friendship level is being rolled out! You can now become Forever Friends with someone by interacting an additional 90 "points" with a best friend! This update also includes the addition of Remote Trading, a long requested feature, for those that hit this friendship level. Here are the details that we have!

When you become Forever Friends with someone, you will be awarded with a Remote Trade along with XP. You only get one Remote Trade with a Forever Friend at a time, but if you continue to interact with your friend, you can earn another. Basically, Forever Friends is now a continuing progression with your friends!

When you earn more friendship points, you can earn XP and additional Remote Trades. Make sure you use your remote trade before you earn the next milestone.

There will be a Timed Research available starting Monday Dec. 15 to celebrate this new feature.

Here's a bit more of a breakdown based on Niantic's official announcement.

Friendship Points

Friendship points are replacing "daily interactions" with friends. You still only can earn one point normally by standard interactions. However, there are weekly challenges that friends can complete together to earn additional points.

You can earn up to 7 additional points a week.

Remote Trades

A Remote Trade works differently from a standard trade. When you go to Remote Trade, you will use a special tag to mark Pokémon you would like to trade. Once you hit Forever Friends, you will be able to see the Pokémon that were tagged by your friend.

When you're ready to trade with your friend, you take turns selecting up to three of those tagged Pokémon. The "wish lists" are exchanged, and then you choose one of your three to send off. You then get to review the final trade and must confirm or cancel.

Fortunately, if you're Lucky Friends, the trade will be Lucky! Additionally, Remote Trades don't count as Special Trades!

Remote Trade Limitations

  • Pokémon caught in the last 30 days
  • Previously traded Pokémon
  • Shadow, Mythical, and Fused Pokémon
